The Conjuring 2
In 2014, The Conjuring 1 had released in the cinema. For
this year 2016, James Wan the director of the “The Conjuring”. He decided to shoot “The Conjuring 2” since the first of “The Conjuring” actually get a good feedback on it. So, actually today I
want to talk about “The Conjuring 2”. This movie is much scarier than the first one. This
movie is talking about the same notorious ghostbusters Ed that acted by Patrick
Wilson and Lorraine Warren that acted by Vega Farmiga. At first the movie
starts with an investigating cases of the murders that became well known as “The Amityville Horror”. Lorraine was same as
the first episode of “The Conjuring”, she has a unique ability to communicate with those
supernatural beings and she has been asked by the people who stay at the house
to confirm that what happened at the Amityville. Lorrain then her soul allows
her to follow to see what happened around in the house and how the murders took
place in the house a demon actually literally haunt Lorrain throughout the film
and issue her a warning that she will lose Ed if she keep on helping people
that their house haunted.
After the Amityville, then the movie was showing a family,
Hodgson family which led by a single mother and including her four children.
One of the girls Janet that acted by Madison Wolfe was caught smoking by her
teacher. Then when she back to her home, she stars to sleepwalking, weird
sounds in the midnight, and at last ends up in possession. An old man named
Bill Wilkins who acted by Bob Adrian have the ability to take over the Janet’s body, even speaking through her. And besides that there is
another man much scarier than the old man, he crosses turn upside down or the
vision of the “Crooked Man”. Then there are some authorities end up find Lorraine and
her husband, Ed to help. Finally, the ending was a little bit weird, actually
the whole things was doing by a demon named as Valak. The demon controlled the
old man, crooked man and all those. End up, Lorraine was solved it and the
family lived peacefully afterwards.
Now I want to talk about the mise-en-scene of this movie.
During this movie, they used many different styles of lighting. For example,
from high to low lighting throughout the movie. For the scene in the living
room, they use lighting to contrast with the natural light. The basement scene
they use low light the create a mood of scarier for the audience. Director
James Wan used many different kind of angle to shoot this. The most angle I like
the most is the director very confident on what his DOP can shoot. He got many
scene is one take from place A to place B. Is a quite interesting shot, because
there are not many movies try to do that in their movie. Besides, the colour
grading of the video is very nice. Different location having different colour
to represent to feeling of that scene. For instance, during day, the colour
will be more warmth for outdoor but while inside the house, the colour will be
more towards cold as blue colour to show how horror is it. The colour of the
movie is very nice instead of using all same color.
Other than that, their setting is very suitable for the
horror scene part. The actor’s expression and their
costumes too. Especially the demon “Valak” is damn horrible to the audience, the old man and the
crooked man too.
The director James Wan is very good in doing this kind of
film. Many people named him as “Horror King”. I liked those movies that he directed so much.
