BALING

Baling is a documentary performance that reconstructs these historic negotiations between Tunku Abdul Rahman, David Marshall and Chin Peng.

By Mark Teh(director)

First of all, I do not know what is Baling about until I went for that talk. I found out that this talk is quite meaningful for the new generation to know more about our country, Malaysia history.

Today, I want to talk about the a hero of Malaysia. Just to focus on him. He meant a lots to us.

CHIN PING

Chin Peng was born in late October, 1924, into a middle class Hokchia (hanyu pinyin: Fuqing) family in the small seaside town of Sitiawan, in Perak state, Malaya. His father had come to the town in 1920 and started a bicycle, tyre, and spare motor parts business with the help of a relative from Singapore. He attended a Chinese-language school in Sitiawan. In 1937 he joined the Chinese Anti Enemy Backing Up Society (AEBUS), formed that year to send aid to China in response to Japan's aggression against that country. (Malaysian Communists: Chin Peng, Lai Teck, Abdullah CD, Eu Chooi Yip, Fong Chong Pik)

As we know that he is a communist leader in the Malaysia history, he is a heroic that anti-Japanese resistance leader.
Through this Baling talk, I know that Chin Peng was the last survivor communist leader that successfully fight for the independence after World Wars II.

After the Baling talks, all of us know well about the situation of last times what happened of Malaysia to get the independence from the British. The actors of the Baling talks are very awesome, they really bring us to back the old times to sense and feel the actual situation during the conversation between Chin Peng and others leaders.

The acting of the actors are truely focus on the characters that what they act even though in different location, they are keep on changing their own personalities depends on what the actors want to bring it out the feeling to the audience. Especially the actors read the historical document in front os us. They maybe want to let us know that these all are prove that those leader had make decision in the old times, So that our Malaysia will become nowadays is because of those historical documents last times.
